We collect only what is necessary to provide and improve our service:
- Account information — email address and display name when you create an account (optional; the app can be used without signing in)
- Reading activity — articles you read, time spent reading, and categories you follow, to personalize your feed
- Bookmarks and reading list — articles you save, stored against your account
- Comments and interactions — content you post, likes, and reports you submit
- Device and usage data — device type, OS version, app version, crash logs, and performance data via Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics
- Push notification tokens — to deliver notifications you have opted into
- Language and notification preferences — to personalise your experience
3. How We Use Your Information
- To display and personalise your news feed based on your selected interests
- To sync your reading list and bookmarks across devices when signed in
- To send push notifications for topics you have opted into
- To enable the comments feature and enforce our community guidelines
- To monitor app performance, diagnose crashes, and improve reliability
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use
4. Firebase and Third-Party Services
Parsnet is built on Google Firebase, which provides authentication, database, analytics, crash reporting, and push notification infrastructure. By using the app, you also agree to Google's Privacy Policy.
We also use the following third-party services:
- WorldNewsAPI — to source aggregated news articles
- Perplexity AI — to generate exclusive AI-authored articles
- Unsplash — to source article images
- Google Translate API — to translate content into English, French, and Persian
These services may process certain data as part of providing their functionality. We do not share personally identifiable information with them beyond what is technically required.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Reading history is retained to power your personalized feed and account statistics. If you delete your account, all associated personal data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained indefinitely.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Opt out of push notifications at any time through the app's Settings
- Use the app without creating an account

7. Children's Privacy
Parsnet is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Data Security
We use Firebase's industry-standard security infrastructure, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production data is restricted to authorized personnel only. Despite these measures, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you through the app or via email if you have an account.
